In 1961, airline pilots Courtney Graham and Keith Larkin founded Plantronics in a Santa Cruz, California garage, developing lightweight headsets for aviation. Their innovation caught NASA's attention, leading to the use of Plantronics headsets during the Apollo missions, including Neil Armstrong's historic moon landing transmission in 1969. In 1990, Brian Hinman and Jeffrey Rodman established Polycom in a San Francisco basement, focusing on audio conferencing solutions. Polycom’s SoundStation conference phone became a staple in business communications. In 2018, Plantronics acquired Polycom, and the combined entity rebranded as Poly in 2019, reflecting an expanded focus on unified communication solutions. In August 2022, HP Inc. completed its acquisition of Poly, integrating its audio and video expertise into HP's portfolio to enhance hybrid work offerings. Today, Poly continues to develop innovative communication tools, building on its rich legacy to support seamless collaboration worldwide.
