In 1911, Joseph O. Eaton, his brother-in-law Henning O. Taube, and Viggo V. Torbensen founded the Torbensen Gear and Axle Company in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Their goal was to manufacture Torbensen’s innovative internal-gear truck axle, which offered a more efficient and reliable solution for vehicles. In 1914, they relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, to be closer to the rapidly growing automotive industry. Over the years, the company expanded into new areas, including fluid power systems, electrical components, and automotive parts, evolving into a business that could address a wide range of power management needs. Renamed Eaton Corporation, the company grew into a global powerhouse, now operating in more than 175 countries. Today, Eaton provides solutions that help businesses and communities manage power efficiently, safely, and sustainably, making a difference across industries worldwide.
