The APC AP8961 is a switched rack power distribution unit that delivers 208-volt power to equipment in a server rack while occupying no horizontal space, because it mounts vertically in the 0U channel. With twenty-one C13 outlets and three C19 outlets, it can feed a mix of servers, storage arrays, and network switches from a single 5.7 kW source.

Each outlet can be turned on or off remotely through a web browser, SNMP, or Telnet session. This capability lets an administrator reboot an unresponsive server without visiting the rack, schedule startup sequences that reduce in-rush current, or lock individual outlets to prevent unauthorized use.

The unit measures current in real time and displays the reading locally and over the network. User-defined alarms warn when a circuit approaches its limit, helping to avoid accidental overloads that could trip a breaker. A port for an optional temperature or humidity probe extends monitoring to environmental conditions inside the rack.

An input plug of type NEMA L21-20P supplies three-phase 208-volt power, making the PDU well suited to high-density data centers, enterprise server rooms, research labs, and colocation facilities.
