Learn more about crown audio
In 1947, Clarence C. Moore, a minister from Elkhart, Indiana, founded the International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) to provide quality electronic products for Christian broadcasters. Operating initially from a converted chicken coop, the company gained recognition for producing rugged open-reel tape recorders designed for use in remote locations. In 1949, Moore secured a patent for the world's first tape recorder with a built-in 15-watt power amplifier. In the 1960s, under the suggestion of Moore's wife, Ruby, the company rebranded as Crown International, inspired by the emblem on their products. The 1967 release of the DC300 solid-state amplifier, offering 150 watts per channel, solidified Crown's reputation in the audio industry. Despite a devastating fire in 1971 that destroyed much of their facility, Crown rebounded swiftly, resuming production within six weeks. In 2000, Harman International acquired Crown, integrating its innovative amplifier technology into their portfolio. Today, Crown Audio continues to lead in professional audio equipment, renowned for its reliable and high-quality amplifiers.
